Enhancing Cybersecurity through Software Heritage

Software Heritage is participating in a new national research and innovation program on cybersecurity launched on Friday, March 31st, 2023, at the Cyber Campus in Paris.

Funded under the National Cybersecurity Strategy and operated by Inria for the academic community, this program at the Cyber Campus aims to strengthen research and skills transfer efforts and technologies resulting from research in coherence with the measures of the strategy. The program relies on the collective dynamics of the Cyber Campus and its network in the region to encourage joint projects between academic, industrial, and government actors.

During the opening event, Roberto Di Cosmo, Software Heritage’s director, presented the first project funded in this framework, codename SWHSec. It brings together eight research teams specialized in security, software engineering and open-source software with the goal to leverage the Software Heritage infrastructure to build tools for cybersecurity.

By analyzing the evolution of software source code over time, researchers and practitioners will be able to gain a better understanding of the vulnerabilities and threats that may exist in software systems, identify potential security risks early on and take proactive measures to mitigate them.

This collaboration presents a valuable opportunity to bring together different communities that share the common goal of improving cyber security. By working together, we can make significant progress in enhancing the security of software systems and ensuring a safer digital world for all.
