Hello
Oscar Valenzuela
Software Engineer Fellow, General Assembly
About Me
Oscar has over two decades of experience in Software Development, open source, supply chain, and community building, and currently serves as a Principal Open Source Engineer at Amazon.

In this role, Oscar leads the technical strategy for the Open Source Program Office, driving initiatives to scale compliance processes across the company while ensuring the adoption of industry best practices and standards. Oscar has led numerous M&A technical due diligence and compliance projects and developed commercial software, spanning diverse applications from embedded software for spaceships to small IoT consumer devices. He aims to bring this extensive experience to the Software Heritage project, focusing on identifying opportunities for community growth and collaborating with the industry to enhance open source compliance and security methodologies, leveraging the Software Heritage archive. Additionally, Oscar actively participates in multiple open-source compliance tooling communities and has co-authored several compliance tools. He is known as an advocate for Free and Open Source Software through his work with FSF LA and represents Amazon as a board member on both the OpenChain and Yocto Projects. While his formal education is in software engineering and security, Oscar's early studies in industrial electricity, automation, and telecommunications gave him a hands-on understanding of legal compliance for commercial consumer devices and risk management for the software supply chain.
