The creation of a uniform database of open source code is a critical first step in being able to understand the scope and breadth of open source innovation.

As the largest patent non-aggression community in history, founded to support Linux and adjacent open source technologies, OIN strongly supports the Software Heritage mission to collect and document the inventions arising out of the cultural and technological phenomenon that is open source development.

It is our hope that we will eventually be able to use this important work to unlock open source innovation and, in the process, invalidate poor quality patents and raise the bar on what is patentable in the future.
