I’ve been involved with the global open-source technology community since the 1980s, with a focus on helping individuals and their communities develop and achieve their goals. My startup experience includes Mt Xinu, Pilot Network Services, and Sendmail Inc. I’ve given talks on a variety of subjects in the US, Europe, and Asia, and co-organized conferences including the first Open Source Track at Grace Hopper, Sustain!, and Education & Lifelong Learning Foo Camp.

With over 12 years of experience at the Google Open Source Programs Office, I am a co-organizer of Science Foo Camp and the founder of the Sci Foo Alumni community. My past and present board and committee service includes the FreeBSD Foundation, the IEEE Standards Association Open Source Committee (OSCom), the Portland State University Digital Cities Testbed Center Advisory Committee, co-founder of the first Open Source Track @ Grace Hopper, 4 Board terms with USENIX.org, and 3 years as a jury member for Falling Walls Labs.
