Melissa has been involved in open source since wandering into the Ubuntu community around 2006. They have engaged in grassroots marketing, communications, and community building, as well as made various technical contributions to open-source projects. Currently, they help run several internet services for the open source community to use for collaboration, learning, and socializing. Melissa joined Software Heritage as a contractor working on content in mid 2025.
